MEDITERRANEAN DIET
AND THE VALUE OF PASTA
Dietary Goals from the U.S. senate sums up many years of studies from Dr.Angel Keys, about the problems of nutrition.
He discovered that farmers had a minority of gastro-intestine diseases compared to people from the cities. That is because farmers eat a lot of pasta, bread, fruit, vegetables and a lot of olive oil, very little fish and no red meat. Not because the farmers didn’t enjoy the meat but simply because they could not afford it.
Dr Keys than told people that if they want to live longer and healthier they should eat just like the farmers, products that come from the land “Eat Good Feel Good”.
The Mediterranean Diet tells you to eat pasta with seafood or tomatoes and olive oil.
Having a balanced nutrition means giving your body all the proteins, fats and carbs that it needs to built energy that we consume during the day, this energy we can measure it with the calories intake which can be more or less controlled.
Proteins are essential for our cells, inside our cells we have different kind of aminoacids many of those can be built by our body some of them (essential aminoacids) must be build by us and by the food we eat.
The myth that the pasta makes you fat is totally false infact plain pasta has 350 calories per 100grs. Pasta equals to energy. From the 2800 cal intake per day 60% should come from carbs 20% from fat and 10% from protein.
Dr. D.R. Hodgdon dean of the New York University, Head of Medical College Hannemann of Chicago. In a report for the American National Institute of food, he wrote that “eating pasta must be increased immediately in this country (USA) because pasta contains many nutrients and is very easy to digest (…) whoever suffers from digestive problems should eat pasta (…) for the little ones pasta is highly recommended because is full of vitamins and minerals and is easy for the digestion (…).
Pasta also contains iron (more than rice , nuts and coconut), phosphorus, calcium and magnesium, which are very important for our body.
